camera woes

Will's 80's themed birthday party was this weekend. I think it went really well. I was in the kitchen most of the time in order to keep Will out of it but I think people had fun. We were kinda facist about enforcing the dress code but at parties like that you really have to be.

Besides waking up with my mouth tasting like cigarettes and my hair still full of aquanet, nothing really went wrong. Except my camera :(

In a botched drunken hand off, a couple good friends ended up dropping and damaging my camera. Fortunately, I was able to get the pictures off of it (check them out on Will's facebook album) but it wont let me take any new ones. There seems to be something wrong with the lens because an error message keeps coming up. And the latch on the flash card door doesn't close all the way...

It would take at least $108 to fix. Yesterday I maxed out my credit card.

Its really hard for me to decide what to do. The friends who dropped it both offered to help pay for it, but I don't know if that was more rhetoric or they actually meant it. Will also offered to help as part/all of my birthday/xmas present.

I'd feel bad taking them up on it because the camera is ultimately my responsibility. I know it is partially my fault because I allowed other people (drinking/drunk people at that) to use it and wasn't paying close attention to it. But I really wanted pictures from the party because I knew I was going to be in the kitchen for most of it.

I can't afford to pay to have it fixed right now. But it upsets me that I can't use the my camera--which I use for classes, social events, work, etc--because of other people's actions. I don't know what to do.

Advice?

I'm stealing your damned camera, getting it fixed and paying for it...and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
